The best exhibits receiving Large Gold medal are competing for the two Grand Prix of the Exhibition, one for the best Greek exhibit and one for the best exhibit belonging to a foreign exhibitor.

Invited exhibits, belonging in the non-competitive classes, will be also on display.

Patronage granted by the Municipality of Athens

In December 6, 2005, the Mayor of Athens Mrs. Dora Bakoyiannis accepted to grant the patronage of the Municipality of Athens to "Philotelia 2005".

The Organizing Committee is grateful to the Mayor and her collaborators for their cordial reception and response to the issues set forward by the O.C.

The exhibits

The selection procedure regarding the exhibits in the Competitive Classes, which was closed by the end of October, was supplemented by the final confirmation of the invited exhibits in the Non-Competitive Classes. The complete list has already been published in the exhibition's web site (www.hps.gr/p2005).

The O.C. wishes to thank all exhibitors who positively responded to the invitation for participation in "Philotelia 2005" and has the pleasure to announce that visitors will have the chance to enjoy a panorama of 100 or so distinguished collections, mounted on 425 frames in all.

Unfortunately due to the large number of applications submitted and lack of ample exhibition space, it was impossible to satisfy all applications for participation, starting from the members of the O.C., the ones of the HPS Administrative Council and the Jury.

The Exhibition Catalogue

The Exhibition Catalogue has been systematically designed, preparations have already gone under way, and the Catalogue is due in mid-January. We are looking forward to a tasteful edition, where the exhibits themselves will enjoy a predominant presence. Half a page has been assigned to each of the exhibits, which will, among others, include a short descriprtion and a picture of one or more of the pieces to be exhibited, along with the relevant remarks.

Replacement of a Jury member

Mr. Alan Griffiths, Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society, London, and member of the Society's Board will replace Alan Huggins, as member of the Jury and representative of the Groom collection. Mr A. Griffiths is an international judge in the Class of Traditional Philately and national judge in the Class of Postal History.

The Groom collection
The O.C., wishing to offer to the Greek and foreign philotelists, collectors, exhibitors and researchers the greatest possible range of the large Hermes heads collections, has invited the collection of the renown British pioneer scholar Theodore Groom

The collection was formed the first years of the 20th century. Upon the death of its owner, it was bequeathed to the Royal Philatelic Society London and since then it is kept there. During the '70s, R.A.G. Lee, President of the Society and knowledgeable collector of the large Hermes heads, classified, commented and mounted the greater part of the collection to exhibition sheets. The Royal Philatelic Society responded graciously to the invitation and thus visitors shall have the chance to see the famous collection which will be exhibited for the first time in public.

International Judges
The O.C. has invited four international judges to participate in the Jury of "Philοtelia 2005". The aim of this invitation is:

a. Sensitizing the foreign judges to the Hellenic philotelic area, their briefing on the recent findings of the philotelic research as same is shown in both the exhibits and the latest philotelic announcements and

b. the instilling of knowledge in particular subjects either of traditional philotely or our rich postal history.

In view of the above, the following distinguished international judges have been invited:

Alan Huggins (U.K.) RDP, Honorary Fellow and Past President of the Royal Philatelic Society London, past Chairman of the FIP Postal Stationery Commission and jury team leader in the Postal Stationery Class in international exhibitions.

Main objectives of the Organizing Committee
The Organizing Committee is particularly focused on three objectives/directions:
- Accumulation of Large Hermes Heads exhibits,
- Presentation of One Frame Exhibits,
- Invitation to new exhibitors.

1. Open discussions
The Organizing Committee has scheduled a series of open discussions, aiming to help collectors in preparing and presenting their exhibits. International exhibitors, who were present in recent international exhibitions, capable to convey to us valuable information, have been selected as principal speakers in such discussions. Participating in such an open discussion, regardless of any exhibiting experience, will certainly be particularly useful to everyone.
The first discussion will take place on Wednesday 29 September at 19:00 in the Hellenic Philotelic Society premises (Academias 57, Athens), focused on One Frame Exhibits, to which great emphasis will be given in the upcoming exhibition. The subject will be introduced by Socrates Bosovitch and Pantelis Leoussis. All collectors interested to attend are invited to visit "Philotelia 2005" web site (www.hps.gr/p2005) so as to be informed about the Special Regulations and the Guidelines for the evaluation of One Frame Exhibits.

2. Large Hermes Heads exhibits
One of the objectives of the O.C. is to accumulate, for the first time since 1984, the Large Hermes Heads exhibits. For that purpose, all the renowned exhibitors of the Large Hermes Heads have been notified and most of them have already positively responded.

3. New exhibitors - new exhibits
It is a wish of the O.C. to have first-time exhibits side by side to the older ones, so that experience and recognition will coexist with freshness and new concepts. The O.C. will make sure that all necessary conditions are met for new exhibitors and new exhibits to emerge. First-time exhibitors will experience the full support and substantial assistance by the O.C. on how to prepare and present their exhibits.

4. Reminders
Please note that the Exhibition is to be hosted in the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Athens (50 Academias str, Athens) from 9 to 20 February 2005. Exhibitors may download the Special Regulations, Entry Forms and other useful information from the Exhibition's web site (www.hps.gr/p2005).
