The Hellenic Philatelic Society had a significant presence at the 1st ATHENS COLLECTIBLE FESTIVAL 2024, which took place at the hospitable venue of the Athens Conservatoire on 20-21 April, as an official partner of the event.

It is clear that collectors’ interests have broadened and are no longer limited to philately, numismatics, or cartophily. The attendance was particularly satisfying and optimistic, despite visitors being asked to pay an entrance fee of €5.

At the same time, following conversations with philatelic friends and visitors, we have concluded that a return to in-person exchanges—buying and selling—is necessary. There are now very few shops in Athens, and online searches are often problematic (high website and payment commissions, additional fees, and risky or counterfeit items). Equally important is the need for direct contact and communication between collectors, as the possibilities provided by modern technology have limited these interactions.

The Administrative Council of the Hellenic Philatelic Society recognises this need and is considering organising regular monthly Sunday exchange meetings at our newly renovated premises.
