We are tired of reading in news columns that, “according to reliable sources”, the Hellenic Post recovery plan is being feverishly prepared, that there are new leakages in the tens of millions, accumulated deficits in the hundreds of millions, compensations for the services that have been given or not given to the Hellenic Post, also in the hundreds of millions and that the …dance of the tons of money has no end. Every such report comes from the pen of a reputable journalist, of course, it is reproduced word for word from reputable newspapers and reputable websites, so in a short time it is transformed into a perfectly valid news item. Oh what a terror…
This column has rarely questioned the Hellenic Post businesses and, if so, only its stamp issuing policies. It has never been involved in the organisation’s finances; these are political issues which do not concern us. However, because as a society, as a journal and as collectors, we are in blood-relationship with the Postal Service, these prefabricated and every so often repeated “refrigerator reports” certainly bother us.
For about two hundred years, rulers and their buddies have wasted the wealth of our nation. It is time for the State to find the courage to face a coeval Organisation with dignity and put an end to its prolonged and systematic discrediting.
